Rule of Law Rules #1 : “The GDPR is a milestone”
Today we present you the first episode of the podcast series “Rule of Law Rules” by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation. Hosted by Dr Angela Daly, a socio-legal scholar of digital technology, each episode will feature an interview of an international expert on the opportunities and challenges for human rights in the digital age. Three topics will be broadly discussed: data protection, legal technology and security. The aim is to gain insights into recent developments from different parts of the world. The first episodes will take stock of regional developments on data protection policy around the globe. The first guest is Frederick Richter, the director of the German Foundation for Data Protection. He will give insights on how the General Data Protection Regulation has influenced the world and the EU/Germany in particular. The Stiftung Datenschutz (Foundation for Data Protection) was established by the German Federal Government in 2013. As a non-profit incorporated foundation it provides a non-partisan forum for debates around effective and efficient data policy and develops recommendations for privacy politics. The podcast will have a look at the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, better known as the GDPR: How has it influenced data protection worldwide? How is data protection handled in other parts of the world? How can we establish international standards? And what will happen next?
